9/24/04 Halah has grown quite a bit since 18 months! They measured her at 33 inches at her last appointment, but she was squirming, so I think the measurement was off. Halah brought her doctor kit with her to the appointment, and the pediatrician gave her a medicine dropper and a pair of latex gloves to add to it. I told the pediatrician about her language progress, and she agreed that Halah was doing just fine. Halah won't have another appointment until her birthday next year. Weight: 24.6 lbs (up from the 20th to the 25th %) Height: 34 1/4 inches (down from the 75th to the 60th %) 3/24/04 Halah did NOT want the doctor to examine her today. She likes most of the doctors in the practice, but is really not fond of Dr. Graham. Everything looked great, and she is developing right on track. She can do the important things, like walk backward, point out at least one part of her body (she can actually point out 10!), and help dress/undress herself. She's hit a major growth spurt! Weight: 21 lbs, 8 oz (up from the 5th to the 20th %) Height: 33 inches (up from the 50th to the 75th %) Head Circ: 17 1/2 inches (up from off the chart to the 2nd %) 2/3/04 I took Halah to the doctor today for a cough she's had for about a week. It turns out she has a touch of bronchitis. She's on a steroid, an antibiotic, and some decongestant. I hope she feels better soon. Her ears were clear and she didn't have a fever, so that was good at least. :) Also, she now weighs 19 lbs, 12 oz, so she's grown quite a bit! 12/19/03 Halah is measuring along the same track as she has been, which is good since she hasn't eaten much for about a week being sick. They did a swab and said she didn't have the flu, just a nasty cold. She had THREE shots today and cried and cried. Luckily apple juice calmed her down. Her doctor said everything on her is just perfect. The doctor called me at home after the appointment and told me that her flu test had slowly turned positive after I left, so as I figure, she really did have the flu while we were in Michigan. Weight: 19 lbs, 2 oz (down from the 12th to the 5-10th %) Height: 30 3/4 inches (stayed at the 50th %) Head Circ: 17 inches (down from the 3rd to off the chart) 11/7/03 When Halah got up this morning, she had a slight temp of 100.6. It was enough for me to keep her home, but not enough to call the doc since she had no other symptoms and was playing normally and eating fine. Well she didn't eat her lunch well at all, and she was getting really fussy early in the afternoon, so I put her down for her nap early. She didn't sleep well, and I went and got her about 45 mins after she went down. She was really warm when I got her, so I took her temp. It was 103.3 rectally. I called her doc and got an immediate appt. By the time we got in to see the doc she was very warm and her eyes were glassy. When the nurse took her temp, it had spiked to 105.2. We stripped her down to her diaper and put a cold rag on her head. The nurse gave her a double dose of Advil. The doc examined her and could find nothing wrong. The phlebotanist came in and drew a vial of blood and attached a bag to collect urine. By this time she was starting to cool off slightly. It was so hard to hold her down while they drew the blood. She screamed and screamed I hated seeing that needle digging around in her arm. By the time the doc came in with the results of the blood test, Halah had cooled to 103 and was actually smiling and playing again. The results made it look more like a viral infection than a bacterial one, but the doc decided to give her a shot of Roseffin? just to be sure. When the nurse came in to give her her shot, she was almost back to normal and was even walking around. She seems fine now, but I will be watching her so closely all night. I couldn't believe how quickly the fever came and went! 11/8 Update- Well her fever went back up to 102.9 at around 11, but the doctor told me to expect that. I brought her down and she and her daddy lied on the couch together for a while. He held a damp rag on her head. At midnight I gave her another dose of Advil and I lied down with her on the couch. What a great time! She was so silly! All she wanted to do was pat me and kiss me and pet Cassie and babble. She was adorable. I finally turned off the tv and tried to get her to fall asleep at about 12:45. She wasn't having it. She kept yawning, but I think I was too much of a distraction for her. She kept kissing me over and over. The highlight was when she patted my cheek and said "briddy" (her word for pretty). As much as I enjoyed her compliment and company, I needed some sleep. Since she had cooled down again and was obviously not going to sleep with me, I put her in her crib. She protested for a minute or so, then fell asleep. I didn't hear from her again until 8 when I went to check on her. She seems to be doing well this morning. She drank her milk and is now eating some orange slices and Cheerios. She's still a little warm, but she's doing so much better! 10/9/03 At Halah's 12 month check up today, she got two shots. She only cried while the shots were being administered, and was fine by the time I got her dressed. The doctor was impressed with her development and told me that there was no need to fear the MMR shot, as Halah obviously has no autistic tendencies whatsoever. He told me that the foods she should not have are strawberries and anything that could be a choking risk. Weight: 18 lbs, 5 oz (up from the 10th to the 12th %) Height: 29 1/2 inches (stayed at the 50th %) Head Circ: 17 inches (down from the 4th to the 3rd %) 7/21/03 I took Halah to the doctor today, as she had a fever of 101. She has some sort of chest cold. She was put on Augmentin and Motrin. Update: After the fever went away on the 22nd, Halah was back to normal! 6/24/03 At Halah's 9 month check up today, she got all A's! Weight: 16 lbs, 4 oz (up from the 5th to the 10th %) Height: 27 3/4 inches (up from the 25th to the 50th %) Head Circ: 16 1/2 inches (up from the 3rd to the 4th %) Iron: 37 (anything over 32 is excellent) All developmental milestones in check. It's so nice to not have to worry about her weight gain anymore! 6/2/03 Halah went to the doctor today with a fever of 100.8. She has her first real ear infection. Her right ear was quite red inside! She was given Augmentin and after three days was her old self again. I had to take off that Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, as she wasn't allowed to go to daycare while sick. It was so nice to spend so much time with her. I feel like I really got to know her better. 5/6/03 Halah had a weigh-in today to be sure she was still growing well. She grew nearly 2 pounds in just 6 weeks! She weighed in today at 14 lbs, 6.5 oz. They checked her for an ear infection and all was clear. Her thrush is also gone. New this month are some very fun milestones. She is in the beginning stages of cruising, though she often trips over herself and falls. She has also graduated to taking some milk in a sippy cup. She has two bottles and one cup at daycare, but we're working toward two cups and one bottle. I think she'll be weened from a bottle by 10 months. She will still nurse though. That I am planning to continue until the recommended year. She gets about 12 ounces of formula a day at daycare, but she still nurses at home. 3/24/03 Well first off, Halah's ped was wrong 2 weeks ago when he said she was 14 lbs 5 oz. They hadn't zeroed the scale, so it was WAY off. On Monday Halah weighed in at 12lbs, 7 oz. She is still my petite little bean She is 25 1/4 inches long. Everything looks good with her growth and her health. Unfortunately the antibiotics she was on for the bronchial infection, she developed thrush. She's taking some nasty med for it. Sad when one med causes a problem that makes you give your baby ANOTHER med! So on to the fun stuff. HOLY COW! I never guessed that 6-months meant Halah would suddenly grow up! She now can pick up her own cup and drink from it. She can put her spoon in her mouth and eat off it, and then drop it when she's done (hasn't yet learned to put it in the bowl.) She sits up all by herself with no support or balance! She just learned to give kisses! She will grab your face and pull it toward her open, drooling mouth, then move her head back and forth to give cluster kisses like I do to her (mwah mwah mwah mwah). Too cute! So I'm just far too pleased with my sweet 6-month old. She grew up over night! 3/11/03 Halah visited the pediatrician today because she had a barky sounding cough. She has a bronchial infection which we are treating with antibiotics and a decongestant. The doctor expects her to recover quickly. She weighed in at a whopping 14 lbs, 5 oz! That is a 3 lb, 5 oz gain in about 6 weeks! Grow baby grow! 1/24/03 Halah had her 4 month check-up today. She weighed 11 lbs and was 24 inches long. She is in the 25th percentile for both. She was in the 5th percentile for head circumference. She didn't pee on the scale this time! She had 4 vaccinations and cried and cried, but by the time we left the exam room, she was fine. Halah is now allowed to start rice cereal! 12/6/02 Halah had her first sick baby appointment today. I brought her in to get a lump on her shoulder checked. It turned out to be a birth mark which will fade as she grows. She had a bot of a cold and was given PediOx for the congestion. She weighed 9 lbs, 14 oz and again peed all over the scale. 11/7/02 Today Halah had her six-week checkup. She weighed 9 lbs, 4 oz, and grew to 21 1/4 inches long. She had 4 shots and had her foot pricked to check her bilirubin level. She cried quite a bit, but she recovered just fine. She had no reaction to her shots. When the nurse weighed her, she peed all over the scale! 10/9/02
